Hartford Workforce Leaders Academy, Class of 2017-18, Economic Opportunities Program

Director of Women and Girl's Program, YWCA Hartford Region, Hartford, CT

The YWCA Hartford Region has been a dedicated resource for the community for 150 years. Its mission, “eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all,” provides the foundation for how the YWCA develops programs and events that provide women with information, resources, and support as they work to build a healthy environment for their families in the Hartford communities. Ren Brockmeyer, Director of Women’s and Girls’ Programs at the YWCA Hartford Region, oversees programs, such as the YW Career Women (YWCW) and the YW Leadership Corp, (YWLC), which directly serve the diverse population in the Hartford region. She also oversees the Community Matters forums, dedicated to raising awareness and calling for action on social justice issues that affect the YWCA Hartford Region communities. The YWCW assists women in discovering their assets and pursuing educational and career opportunities leading to self-sufficiency. The YWLC program serves middle school and high school young women providing opportunities to explore STEM careers, artistic outlets, and addressing local social justice issues from a young women’s perspective.

Ren Brockmeyer is a member of the Hartford Workforce Leaders Academy, Class of 2017-18, one of several Workforce Leadership Academies in localities across North America.

The Workforce Leadership Academies are part of the Economic Opportunity Fellows Network, a network of leadership and fellowship programs run by the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program.
