Shantel Santana (Gainesville, Florida) is a sophomore at Santa Fe College where she is earning a B.A. in International Relations and minoring in Linguistics. Shantel is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, skills she was able to hone while interning with the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations last year. While working with the United Nations, she learned about human rights issues, disarmament, and international security in addition to meeting diplomats, ambassadors, and heads of state. These experiences led Shantel to her current internship with the Department of State in the Office of the Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs. Currently she is creating a support database for Public Affairs Officers posted around the world and aspires to join the Foreign Service after graduation.
