Sofia Lopez Nunez Born to a small Panamanian-Nicaraguan family, I arrived into this world in the early 1980’s, the heydays of salsa music and revolutions across Latin America. My early childhood was spent between the Nicaraguan mountain highs and the Panamanian beaches, enjoying the beauty of these paradises, but also, witnessing firsthand the repercussions of natural disasters, civil war and poverty. My early life experiences are the reason why I am so passionate about creating educational possibilities for children, as I firmly believe this is what will help shape a better future for Latin America. I hold an Honors B.A. in Economics and Literature from McGill University in Canada and a M.B.A. in International Business from Florida International University. Currently working as Assistant Treasurer for Latin America at Caterpillar, I design and implement financial solutions to support Caterpillar dealers better serve our customers. I am also working on bringing creativity and innovation to a place where it isn’t usually found, as many people believe financial professionals focus their time only on spreadsheets. What you won’t find in my resume? My ultimate dream is to establish to program whereby low income children in countries like Nicaragua can have access to the books and learning material they need to attend school – so that they can be better equipped for the future and have positive impact in their countries. Selected to participate in the Aspen First Movers Fellowship.
