Spencer Lucker is a proud member of the Detroit at Work team serving as industry engagement manager for the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development. He works with employers and training providers across Metro Detroit to increase opportunities for Detroiters to compete for quality jobs and build sustainable careers. His work focuses on the IT industry through the City’s TechHire initiative that seeks to strengthen career pathways for Detroiters. He also works with small businesses in the retail and hospitality sectors to address the current talent shortage and improve their workforce pipelines. Spencer joined Detroit’s workforce ecosystem nearly a year ago shortly after he and his wife moved to Detroit from Washington, DC. He previously worked for the Delta Regional Authority (DRA), a federal agency focused on regional economic development across eight states in the Mississippi River Delta region. While at DRA, he worked on state and regional workforce strategy, small business development, business and talent retention, and directed a leadership development program.
Spencer Lucker is a member of the Detroit Workforce Leadership Academy Class of 2020, one of several Workforce Leadership Academies in localities across North America.
The Workforce Leadership Academies are part of the Economic Opportunity Fellows Network, a network of leadership and fellowship programs run by the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program. Within this Network, EOP connects national and local leaders from across sectors — nonprofit, government, business, philanthropy, academia, and more — to advance policies and practices with the potential to help low- and moderate-income Americans thrive in today’s economy.
