“Urban tech” and “smart cities” technologies are changing the way residents engage city services and move through public space. The people and companies creating these technologies should be as diverse as city residents themselves. This new report by the Center for Urban Innovation has eight recommendations for what city governments can do to increase the number of “smart cities” or “civic tech” or “urban tech” procurements awarded to companies led by women and people of color.
These recommendations were sourced from our network of small business owners, local government official, procurement experts, leaders of urban accelerators, and scores of others. Technology will change the way we experience cities. This report is an essential guide to making those changes benefit everyone.
