FIELD‘s annual US Microenterprise Census highlights the latest industry trends. Results of the 2013 Census, reported by more than 200 microenterprise organizations, reveal that in 2012 microlending activity increased even while the number of assisted individuals declined. Trends in program budgets may explain these seemingly contradictory developments. Operating income and expenses have increased more for lending-focused programs than training focused programs, constraining training programs’ growth.
