Tony Clapsis (Health Innovators Fellow) is the General Manager of CVS Clinical Trial Services – a role that put him at the center of what became one of the largest COVID-19 testing providers in the United States.
As Tony says it: standing up the testing apparatus was almost like building an entirely new business. With that comes building a new team, introducing new products, working with sponsors and regulators, and putting forth a new vision to rally around. All the while, Tony also found an opportunity to accelerate the work of his Health Innovators Fellowship venture decentralizing clinical trials – a move that increases trial access to more diverse patient pools – ultimately ensuring more equity in the trials.
Tony shares insights from scaling 4,000 testing sites in just four months and how he stretched himself as a leader to do so.
Tony Clapsis is a vice president at CVS Health, where he leads the enterprise strategy team. Prior to joining CVS Health, he served as vice president and chief of staff to the chief executive officer of Caesars Entertainment. Tony spent 12 years in various health care roles across federal and state government, as well as at two investment banks. Tony is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Health Innovators Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
The Aspen Institute’s Health Innovators Fellowship’s mission is to develop a community of energized, values-driven leaders committed to finding viable solutions to confront U.S. health care’s problems.
